Welsh Committee – Siarter Iaith

Siarter Iaith—or the Welsh Language Charter—is a national initiative designed to boost the use of Welsh in schools across Wales. It’s all about creating a strong Welsh ethos and encouraging pupils, staff, and the wider school community to embrace the language in everyday life.
Here’s how it works:

Recognition: Schools work toward Bronze, Silver, Gold, and eventually Platinum awards based on their progress and commitment.

Purpose: To increase the social use of Welsh among children and young people, both inside and outside the classroom.

Participation: Everyone gets involved—learners, teachers, governors, parents, and even the local community.

Framework: Schools complete questionnaires to assess current Welsh usage, then develop action plans with clear targets to improve it.
